The Verdigris Spray

A Georgian bar brooch, the flat-cut almandine garnets deepening to wine red under candlelight. It is back-carved so the light enters from behind — the maker's quiet trick. It came to us from a Bohemian family, still in the fitted box it was put away in. It asks very little of whoever wears it next and gives back a great deal.
