The Carpathian Studs

A pair of Georgian cluster studs, the seed pearls deepening to soft cream under candlelight. The detail is built up bead by bead, a technique half-lost by the time this was made. It came to us from an English country house, still in the fitted box it was put away in. You can tell it was worn, not kept — the highest thing we can say of a piece.
