The Carpathian Cluster

A Georgian cluster ring, the rose-cut diamonds deepening to colourless white fire under candlelight. Each stone is closed in its own collet, the way settings were made before machines. It came to us from an estate in the Scottish borders, still in the fitted box it was put away in. It has outlived everyone who owned it and shows no sign of stopping.
